Issues with imported picture into a Photoshop project

Actually, the profiles don't need to match. What they need is just to be there.

This happens when one of the files is untagged, doesn't have an embedded profile.

If both files have an embedded profile, the incoming profile will be converted to the target profile in the paste operation, preserving color.

I haven't encountered any issues while testing Photoshop 26.1 on Windows. Can you capture the entire screen? Is this happening only with that specific document, or with any document where you're trying to place this particular image? Have you tried resetting preferences if nothing else works?

Update: I was able to reproduce the problem. Copying and pasting the image in Photoshop from here works well without any issues. I could drag and drop from one document to another without any problems; the image looks normal. However, after downloading the image to my desktop and trying to drag and drop or place it, that's where the problem begins. Even opening the image as a separate document produces issues, as shown in your screenshot; below is my screenshot.

It’s even stranger that everything works fine when placing images in Illustrator, so I’m confused. Besides confirming the problem, I cannot offer any advice.

What kind of bitmap is your placed image? Can you share the original placed image for testing? Thx
