Just Found My "Lost" File.

After working all night on a large file, I couldn't locate it - anywhere: my computer files, adobe files, cloud files.  I could find previous versions but not an updated one.  I realized I have been working with 2 versions of Photoshop: Photoshop 2023 and Photoshop 2024.  I have an online subscription so I was surprised to find different versions are accessible.  The updated file had been worked on in the 2023 version.  When I was in the 2024 version, it didn't appear.  I am now running both versions and happily working on the lastest version.  My new question is there a way to migrate all the files from one version to the other so they are all together.

What you are seeing in the Welcome Screen is a list of the recently opened files — that's why you only see files that were opened in that version. As @D Fosse said, the files are not stored there — they are on your hard drive.

Because you are on macOS, you can do this to find out where you saved a file if you weren't paying attention:

  • Open the file from the Welcome Screen (recents)
  • Float the window (drag the title bar down or use the Window menu > Arrange > Float)
  • Command + Click the title bar to see the entire path
  • Click the appropriate folder to open it in Finder
  • Dock the floating window again by dragging it back up or using Window > Arrange > Consolidate

The files aren't "in" the application. The files are somewhere on disk.

You need to pay attention to where you save your files. In the save dialog, note the folder you're saving to, and where that folder is.
