Question

My Students are getting an issue not able to open files or save them. Photoshop 25.1

When they try and open a file they get the "Open from Creative Cloud Screen"

The button "On your Computer" will not be able to be pressed.

Their version is 25.1 Photoshop

When they try and save, the grey window opens but no information is displayed. We can exit out of both windows, but it is frustrating for students to have no recourse.

If our IT needs to do something to fix this, what should I be directed them to do?

Thanks

@larst97407225 Jason's explanation has to do with One Drive - your issue is with a NAS. Not the same solution or discussion.

Your problem is completely different than the OP. Maybe post a new thread with screenshots?

Hi Kevin, yes I am fully aware of the Adobe limitations when it comes to external drives and servers. I have been working with servers for many years and never encountered the problem with Cloud. My Adobe applications are indeed installed on my local C:\ drive. And starting photoshop from here I am still hoping to be able to not use Cloud. But as Jason above is explaining, "The button "On your Computer" will not be able to be pressed."

@larst97407225 As stated on many threads and on Adobe.com - working directly from an external or network storage is not supported. There are too many external variables that can affect the files when saving.

Drag local, edit, save local then transfer to the NAS.

Yes, I have experienced the same thing. Using file explorer, I can open psd files also from my NAS. But using an "empty" Photoshop I am still stuck with the Cloud when trying to open files. Still it is nice to have a workaround.

Thanks Kevin, I have done it few times but no effect. I can live with this some time but not being able to open photoshop files on my server is indeed a bigger problem. I seem to be stuck on the Cloud option when trying to open my psd files. I have never ever used the Cloud option for storing my files.

@larst97407225 what happens when you try to reset your preferences using the Settings/General button?

I have the same problem. My files are stored on a NAS Synology 923+ and I am noat using any cloud Also I cannot reset preferences. I have tried several times but no success. I have never had a similar problems with any previous versions of Photoshop. Please look into it urgently. A Photoshop update would be welcome!

Yeah don't try to trick the system by saving directly to the OneDrive folder. If you need OneDrive, your IT folks will have to enable it. Otherwise they need to provide a real local storage solution.

@Jason27008306modq Saving directly to OneDrive (in itself a cloud based solution) is not an approved workflow for Photoshop. Drag out of OneDrive to open, then save locally then drag back to the OneDrive location.
