Problem with layers

Question

Hi guys, I am using Photoshop 2024 (Mac Mini M1) and while I'm working with the brush in the color layer, all of a sudden the layer where I work jumps to the background layer.
It happens every 5-10 minutes, and it's a nuisance...has it ever happened to you guys? how to fix it?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

What is your Layer > Arrange > Send to Back keyboard shortcut?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
