Question

PS won't open existing fiiles

Hi

I am having problems opening files. I have the latest version and have reinstalled it too. I have reset preferences.

PS opens fine to the "Your Files" area. I CAN create a new document but I cannot open any documents. I have tried .jpf .tiff .arw and none of these work. When I select "Open", the open/browse window opens and then it appears to be doing something in the background. A dialog box does open up but so briefly I cannot see what it says. Then nothing happens. If I click anywhere in the open window I get the bing noise which I can bypass with esc but then I have canceled opening a file.

I'm now out of ideas and now cannot use PS which is very frustrating. Any help is welcome.

Thhanks

Paul

I've also noticed this bug in addition to the many others added in the latest Photoshop update. So far the work around I've found is just closing and opening Photoshop until the files decide to open from the home screen again. I haven't spent much time poking at this bug to reliably replicate it but it's definitely happened to me twice this morning before 10am and has been happening since the v24.2 update.

I checked that from the start. As mentioned a dialog box briefly pops-up next to the main window (2x monitor set-up) but then disappears in a fraction of a second and there are no other dialog boxes

@Paul22559739ul50, a couple more suggestions:

  • resize/move the Ps window away from the center (before the Open) to be able to click the dialog after it drops behind the app
  • Win+tab or other window management actions might show the dialog

The team has seen this issue with some machines where a popup or dialog box is behind other windows.  Check this and let us know if this might be the case with your issue.

Thank you,

Cory

Your graphics processor is compatible. 4x ticks and has detected the GPU

I notice there's an integrated Intel GPU in addition to the Nvidia GTX 1650. GPU conflicts is a known problem. You may need to disable the Intel GPU, see section 6 & 7 here:

What does it say under Help > GPU compatibility?

@Paul22559739ul50 please roll back one version and let's see if that gets you back up and working.

Any ideas for my situation? I'm paying for a product that I cannot use and need to use

I have the same problem, cant open files, niether psd. or other formats, cant instal previus versions of Photoshop neither, it just broke 2 days ago, the PC I work on is only for graphic design, the "reseting preferences" solution someone proposted dose not work at all, neither roll-back to previus versions, my PC specs are more the enough to run Photoshop. I did not touch nothing nither install new software.
