PSD files are converting to .png. .png is being added to the end of the .psd

Many of my PSD files are converted to .png png are being added to the end of the .psd. Then when I open them they are flat and small. Some files are .psd but they type are jpg and png's I did not save them in that format. Help!

What version of Photoshop and macOS are you working on? How are you saving the files? Please share few sample files, and we will check on our end.
