Question

"Reset Tool" for "Scale"

Why isn't there a "Reset Tool" option for the "Scale" algorithm in the "Options Bar"? How can one reset the "Scale" algorithm to the default settings in Photoshop?

Not sure what you're asking? The default is, obviously, 100%.

If you have already scaled and committed, it's too late. Then the pixels have been resampled and the only way to go back is in History.

If it's a smart object, set scaling to 100%.

Perhaps I didn't phrase my question correctly. What I meant was, if someone who is new to using Photoshop (not me) wanted to reset the scaling algorithm to its default setting, how would they do that? For example, if I changed the algorithm to "Nearest Neighbor" when scaling an 8-bit image, but they're not familiar with the different algorithms available, how can they figure out what the default algorithm was, which in this case was "Bicubic"?

The settings are sticky (the last setting remains untouched). If they resize a shape/text... the resized object would have different anti-aliasing qualities based on the algorithm.

Ah, OK. Actually I think the default everywhere in Photoshop now is "Bicubic Automatic".

The reason I'm not sure is that this is always one of the first things I change. The difference between the Bicubic varieties is the amount of sharpening built in - and they all oversharpen in my opinion, except Bicubic Smoother which has very little built in sharpening.

So that's the one I use. I prefer to do my own sharpening.

BTW, Automatic just means Bicubic Sharper for downsampling, Bicubic Smoother for upsampling.

Manually or reset Photoshop Preferences maybe? Does Reset All Tools do it?

"Reset Ps Preferences" is a disaster!
"Reset All Tools" doesn't do that.
