Saving files as jpg with batch after software upgrade

Since I upgraded to PS2024 from PS22 when I open files with camera raw (jpg files) they automatically create a PSD file and now I have to take extra steps to batch save the files as jpg files. Is there a way to make the files save a jpg without going through the extra steps. Macbook Mac OS Monterey.

The ACR workflow options at the foot of the window now default to 16 bpc, which isn't supported by JPEG. You can change this via Preferences > Camera Raw:

 

 

It should also be noted that one can directly batch save raw files to JPEG without first opening them into Photoshop:
