Selection and brush tools going crazy

Sometimes when I use my brush/lasso/rectangular marqee it doesn't select what I seletcd or painted and goes in all different directions. The only cause I can find is for the brush tool it usually goes crazy after I change my bursh or brush size. The only fix I have found is closing PS or for the brush tool it goes away after making a bunch of storkes.
