Can I keep the same date on a photo after processing it through Elements?

When I process a photo, it automatically gives that file a new date in Finder (I'm using a Mac). Since the date of the original photo is sometimes important to me, i would ideally like to process the photo through Elements but keep the date when it was originally shot the same. Is this possible and, if so, how do I do this, either though changing the preferences in Elements of in Finder?
