Question

Creating a white background for a bunch of photos

I've seen this question answered before and have studied the answers...to no avail.  I am pretty hopeless with this amazing program!  Anyway, assuming I don't understand anything about layers or tools, how do I take a jpeg I have already shot, edited and saved, and convert the background only to pure white, without affecting the central image?  I know I could manually paint white around all the images but that would take forever and my hands aren't that steady.  How can I get the program to recognize that the central image needs to stay exactly the same and only the background brightened to a pure white?  If you could help, please make it absolutely the simplest possible.  I'm a simple sort of person.

Thank you!!

    1. Set the foreground color chip to white
    2. Double click on the background layer in the layers palette to convert the locked layer to a regular layer
    3. Used one of the selection tools, e.g. Selection brush, lasso tool, to select the central image
    4. Go to Select menu>inverse
    5. Hit delete on the keyboard
    6. Activate the Paint-bucket tool and click on the transparent area (checkerboard pattern)
    7. Press CTRL+D to get rid of the marching ants

Sounds sort of above me but I will give it a try!  Thanks!!

There are a lot of answers here:

If you have difficulty following tutorials, you might be able to find a course at your local college and get hands on instruction..
