Cut and Paste, "No pixels are selected"

Question

Using PSE 15, I have a jpg image of an open double page book.  The section I want starts on the bottom of one page and continues at the top of the second, and I want to put the sections together.  Using layers, I clicked the Marquee tool to select the first section of my document to move it to the top of the page.   The "line of marching ants" shows around the section.  Selecting the Move tool, I click the section, but each time I get "Could not move the section because no pixels are selected."   Holding Shift while selecting and Ctrl while moving makes no difference.  I've tried Edit/Cut.  Same message.  I'm sure it is something simple.  What am I doing Wrong?  Michaele

Make two separate selections. With your image open make a new blank layer (Layer >> New >> Layer >> OK) then highlight the background layer and select your chosen area from the left page. When you see the marching ants use (Edit >> Copy) then select layer 1 above the background layer and choose (Edit >> Paste) You can turn off the background layer visibility by clicking the eyeball and choose the move tool to re-position.

Turn back on the visibility of the background layer and select it (layer highlighted in blue) then select your second area from the top of the right page and repeat the copy & paste. Again turn off the background layer visibility. You can then move into position to bring the two selections together. Then save.
