To add to 99jon good answer, converting means creating a new catalog from the old one which is not changed. There is no risk in trying.

When you launch the PSE15 Organizer for the first time you will be given the opportunity to convert your PSE10 catalog; or you can do it from the Manage Catalog menu. Normally there is no problem. There is no need to uninstall PSE10 and both apps will work happily side by side.
