ERROR CHANGING RATING Photoshop Elements 2018

I cannot rate any of my photos in Photoshop Elements 2018. When I try to rate the photo 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 STAR rating I get an "error changing rating" message. I cannot find a fix. I've used the star rating in the previous versions of photoshop.

I'm having same problem.

Windows 10.

I have just installed Elements 2018, and have about 7000 pictures. At først it worked, but it stopped. I cant set a finger on if i did something.

I hasnt been backed up. The Media analysis did run for a full night (I thougt it should stop before i could excpect it to work) but when i looked at it this morning i had startet the analysis again . I stopped the analysis - but it hasnt helped.

It is in grid view, f11 view. I can edit pictures. I can delete pictures with a picture on the harddisk, but not a thumbnail without a picture…

Maybe i should start from scratch?

At some point i decided to change the first start program to be elements organizer. I just changed it back to the one where you choose between the to products (Welcome screen). When i did this it worked again? That must be a bug?

Hi Peter,

It may just have been a coincidence. The welcome screen just starts whichever program you want to use. I have setup tiles on my start screen to point directly to the organizer and the editor.

I have the media analysis turned of so I can't give any idea of how long it will run for. For each tag that it generates, it needs to update the catalog. The media analysis is done as a background process. When you try to change a star rating, that also has to update the catalog and I can imagine that there is a possible clash.

Do you have all the thumbnails there - no greyed out ones?

If some are missing, right click on one and select update thumbnail.

Do you have any videos in your catalog - they can sometimes cause a problem with thumbnails?

If you have any doubt about your catalog, try doing a repair on it.

- In the organizer go to the File menu and select Manage Catalogs

- in the catalog manager, select your current catalog at the bottom and then click on the repair button

Hopefully it should come back with no errors found.

Brian

Hi,

Which operating system are you running on?

Where are you trying to change the rating?

Is it all types of image?

I have imported new photos to the organizer and tried to rate the better photos and got the error message. It won't let me rate any. I went back to my old photos to see if I could adjust them and got the same error message. I am using Windows 10.

Hi,

Are you trying to change the star rating when in grid view or full screen (F11) view?

Are there any small icons showing in the thumbnail when in grid view?

Are you able to edit the images without a problem?

Brian
