HELP! White background needed on a VERY colorful hat

Hello,

I have searched for hours regarding how to place a white background on a very colorful hat. I have tried many tutorials and I have a basic understanding of how to do it if the edges were well defined. However, the edges are not well defined and nothing really gets the edges clean. Because the hat is very colorful and needed for ecommerce, I need some assistance and the proper steps. My previous post did not have a pix uploaded. I just figured out how to upload an image.
