Large file after adjustments

I'm using PSE 2020 to adjust and clean up some photo prints I scanned with an Epson V600.  I'm doing pretty much the same thing to each - cropping, rotating, Auto Smart Fix, and occasionally adjusting the color, exposure, and using Haze Removal.  For most images the file size after saving is in the 1.5M to 2M range but for a very few the file size on saving is up around 20M.  Out of 160 images fewer than a dozen have the large file size.  What might be causing this?

neerajc - For the most recent session I didn't add any layers and I always have the slider set to maximum.  

ligennroc - All the photos have 24 bit depth.

Hi ,

 

For large size images - These could be possible reasos

1) Adding Layers in the image.
2) Chossing high slider value in JPEG options (if saving to JPEG).

Hi, what I discovered was that the final psd and jpg files both had 24 bit
depth.??? Is this 8bit x 3 channels =24 or 24bit by 3 channels?

How it got there I don't know.



Workflow

ACR development (saves as a .dng ) >Elements 18 Editor (Save as a .psd) >
Franzis Denoise (quite heavy, 15 times noise reduction ) >Franciz >Sharpen
( slightly )(save as .jpg) > elements 2018 editor (save as a .psd )

Later open .psd in Elements Editor > import another image> replace the eyes
on my original image with eyes from second image using layers>converting to
a composite image>flatten all layers.



As a second question, if I flatten layers, I know there is a loss of
information, but is there a loss of quality.?

And if instead of flattening the layers I make a composite layer and delete
the rest, will this retain more information?
