Question

Nikon D7500 & PSE 15

Hi,

I just received the newly released Nikon D7500 today and have not been able to find the right combination of settings for raw (NEF) files that are acceptable to PSE 15 (Camera Raw v 9.10.0.739).  I get the message "Photoshop Elements cannot open this file.

Are there particular settings I can set the camera to to make this work or is an update to PSE/Camera Raw needed?

Thanks!

Glenn L

What is the matter with Adobe?  I have a new Nikon D7500, and a new Photoshope Elements 15, but I cannot get the PSElements to open the D7500 raw files -- and I find it impossible to get an answer from Adobe to this simple question??

The required version of the RAW converter is evidently 9.12, but the latest version which will load to my PElements 15 is 9.10.

    Please help.

I also have a Nikon 750 and Photoshop Elements 15 which will not process raw files.

Camera Raw has been updated for Photoshop and Bridge. Version 9.12 now reads D7500 Raw files.

    Camera Raw 9.12 now available

Unfortunately Camera Raw from PSE 15 has not been updated.

Your best option for now is to use the DNG 9.12 converter to convert all D7500 Raw files to DNG format. Then edit the DNG files, not the Raw files, in PSE15.

The updates to Camera Raw were released today (or maybe yesterday, I've been out of town!). Update your Camera Raw files now and everything should work dandy.

Unfortunately adobe hasn't released the 9.12 camera update for pse 15 as of yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if adobe has cut off pse 15 from any more camera raw updates since pse 15 never got the last 9.10.1 update either.

For now one can use the adobe dng converter 9.12 to convert the Nikon D7500 nefs to dng copies which pse 15 should open.

Both an update to Camera Raw is needed, and it will probably come out in the next version. In the meantime, when I pulled my D7500 out of the box today and stuck in a 64 GB card, something told me to set it it RAW  + JPEG for capture. So I have JPEG files I can use right now in Lightroom and PS, and I saved my .NEF files to another folder that I'll import when the update comes out.

    SO, on your camera:

Menu>Photo Shooting Menu> Image Quality, choose RAW + FINE*  (I chose FINE because it's the best quality JPEG it will generate right out of the camera).

That's the workaround I've got for now. I read somewhere else that you can use a hack to change the camera name in the metadata in the NEF file to say "NIKON D500" (or some other supported camera, but I'm not advanced enough to attempt that.

You can use the free Nikon Capture NX-D if one wants to edit the D7500 nefs until adobe

releases a camera raw update that covers that camera.

According to Adobe's supported cameras table, the D7500 is not yet supported

    Cameras supported by Camera Raw

It will probably be supported in the next Camera Raw update in the next few weeks. However Camera Raw support for Photoshop Elements tends to lag behind Camera Raw support for Photoshop.

In the meantime, you'll have to use the camera Manufacturer's software.
