Places Tags - No flexibility in names or sub categories in PSE 15?

Hi, In People, Events and Keywords, it seems that you can name any tag anything you want. (The purpose of tags, I believe, is for users to use any name that means something to them. ) You can also have several sets of sub categories with any name, even if you over do it.

However, it seems that in Places, at least with unpinned items,  the only names you can use,is  if it is recognized by Google Maps.  So you can't categorize or separate your photos by names that are known to local communities but not Google Maps.  For instance I know of an area that is known locally as "The Hill". One could take 300 photos in that area and PSE would not let you make it a "Place" or a sub category  because Google does not recognize it.  Basically if you wan to add a place in PSE 15 it jumps right to the search for Google Map.

I hope I have made sense and any comments would be welcome.

In short, you have no flexibility. You use the Google Maps structure, that's all.

If you want a flexible organization like me, you forget Google and simply create your own geographical hierarchy of standard keywords and categories. I don't care for geotagging myself, but if I wanted to, I would use both systems at the same time.

Thanks Michel for your quick and great idea. So you are saying let the Geo

tags do what they can and then use the Keyword section of the Tags and

start my own hierarchy as detailed as I want? This is a minor point: But

unless I miss something the four main categories in Keywords are: Nature,

Color, Photography, Other. * Unless I am wrong these can't be renamed,

"Edit" does not seem to allow it.: * So if that is so, go to "Other" and

make a sub category like "My Places" and go from there. Looking forward to

    your reply.

You are absolutely free to create your own categories, subcategories and keywords.

    Here is mine:

Just look on the top right of the Keywords line, you get a plus sign and another triangle icon. That icon shows the drop-down menu which lets you create tags, categories or subcategories.
