problems with pse2019

I purchased this product at walmart . I have a dvd and I was trying to install it and It will not let me. keeps asking for serial # and says it is located in the dvd sleeve it has a number however it is letters and numbers and it will not take letters. I fill this is crap that you buy the actual boxed  product and can not use it. DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE A MONTLY FEE WITH THE BOXED PRODUCT? If so that is also not fair. It does not say you do anywhere. I also tried to use redemption code and it says invalid so now what do I do? This is expensive product and I would like to use it. No one takes back software so I am stuck unless you can help me.
