PS Elements 14.1 suddenly stopped recognizing 3 different cameras

I am running PS Elements 14.1.  I have be able to import pictures from several cameras. for several years.  Suddenly PS Elements 14.1 stopped recognizing the cameras.  Get "No WIA compatible devices were detected. Check your devices plugged into your computer and power is turned on."  I am running Windows 10 pro version 1607  64 bits.  Any ideas what the problem could be?  Note windows explorer recognizes the devices and I can copy and paste photos to PS Elements 14.1 as a workaround.  So cables USB ports and cameras should be ok.  I can not guarantee  that Photo Shop Elements  may have initiated some update of its own that might have failed, but when I had PS Elements  14.1 check up updates it says it is up to date.   Could a device driver be corrupted?
