Sven

I am using Elements 2021 and now I have a catalog that contains all our images and videos, with about 30,000 items. With this size, there are always problems with saving the catalog.

I would like to continue with a new catalog. To avoid having to recreate all my tags (places, events, people), I am looking for a way to import the tags from the old catalog into the new one.

How can I make this happen? I would be very grateful for any support.

Greetings

Sven

Go to Help>System Info . . . and the name and location of your current catalog will be displayed.   You can use Windows File Explorer (or the Mac equivalent) to copy the entire catalog folder and rename it.  Within the copied catalog folder, you will find the catalog database file which for Elements 2021 is named catalog.pse19db.  Double click on this file and the copied catalog will open in the Organizer.  Then, only use the Organizer to delete files from the catalog.  Do not use the option to delete the files from your hard drive.

Thank you very much again. That worked very well.
Now I just need to save the two catalogs quickly and I'll be up to date again.

As you say, the only reason to split up a catalog is to make backups easier.   I suggest that you simply make a copy of the current catalog folder, give it a new name, and then delete a portion of the media files from the new catalog according to your needs, e.g. delete the media by date.  Let us know if you need more of an explanation.

Thank you for your quick response.

Do I copy the catalog with Elements organizer or do I have to search for the file, rename it and copy it by hand?
