Tags and Photoshop Elements 15

First of all I have not found a Photoshop Elements 15 forum so please forgive me for posting here. I do so in the hope that someone can help me!

Since I first got elements many years ago. I have applied Keyword tags and subtags to my family photos (some 36,000) in the following, nested, manner:

Person (or Persons)/Year/Month/Day/event. Very much, if not identical, to the manner in which they are stored on the hard drive.

While this method may not be the optimum, it has worked well for me and I am used to it.

I purchased Photoshop Elements 15 in February this year but have only just had occasion to use the organiser to which I need to add several hundred photos.

In the form that I use I have, for some reason under the places tag, all 36,000 photos. I have the tag system: Persons/20017/January/Day as the last addition under the person. I now wish to add under Persons/2017/ February/date and the do the same for the rest of the months and days of the year that I took the photos.

This has been really simple to do previously but now I can't find a way to add Keywords and sub tags as I used to.

I really don't want to have to re-tag everything and I want my tags, not some that Elements think that I should have!

I would be glad of any advice.

Thanks & Regards,

Jim

When you highlight the '2017' subcategory and right click to get the contextual menu, can you see the option 'Create new subcategory'? If so, can you create the 'February' one?

Hi Michael, Thank you for your reply.

When I right click on any Keyword, nested or otherwise, I get a drop-down menu with the choices: Place on map; Rename; Delete ; New search using 2017; Add to search; Exclude from search.

That contextual menu is the one shown when the subcategory you are going add another one to is a Place tag, not a Keyword tag.

What older version did you use before?

Did you convert your catalog to the PSE15 format or did you re-import your files?

The 'Keyword' section in the tags panel on the right lets you organize your hierarchy flexibly as before. The Places section is the hierarchy offered by the Google Maps software.

I don't get your choice for your hierarchy, which mixes persons, dates and events. The old keywords hierarchy is still available as before whereas the new types of keywords  were separated to support face recognition and geotagging; events are no longer what you decide them to be, they are linked to days just like in other amateur organizing programs. I have kept the old keyword hierarchy with my personal sub-trees for my people, my places, my events and much more. I don't care for face recognition and if I play with geotagging that's as an additional category to my old personal hierarchy.
