audio playback falters

Hi, long time Premiere editor here, now on a new mac mini pro M2 setup. On one specific project, audio playback keeps faltering in the timeline. There is silence about every other second, though the clip audio is fine. I made a new project, imported all the footage once again, transferred it to another drive, rebooted, looked at the cache, the audio hardware settings etc etc. Nothing works. Anyone else experiencing this problem, or know a fix?

Try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

Thanks for responding Bob. The audio hardware input change was already tried, but did not make a difference. I swapped my whole project back to my vintage iMac and it now runs smoothly. Seems to be a M2-premiere bug or something. Very annoying.
