Choose "add caption" in caption panel-NOTHING SHOWS UP IN SEQUENCE (Premiere Pro 14.9 and earlier)

I am working to add open captions to my video, I have added it through File > New > Captions. When I am ready to get to the next caption and hit "add caption" it adds a new box in the panel to edit but nothing shows up in the sequence or anywhere. I can't manipulate the length of the caption in the sequence either. Couldn't be more annoying and I have no clue where the problem lies, any help greatly appreciated. Just want to be able to add captions to the whole video which it isn't letting me.

Hi almas93813970,

We're sorry about this. Are you experiencing this issue with any specific project/caption or is it with all of them? Also, have you tried resetting app preferences to isolate any preference corruption issue that might be causing the app to misbehave.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Excellent! Thanks for reporting. Resetting preferences is the magic fix for a lot of issues.

Make sure you have extended the caption stream in the sequence.

When you create a caption stream it contains only one caption by default ("add caption text here"). If you add that to the timeline, it is only one caption long. It does not automatically extend the length of the stream.

Click on the stream in the timeline. Hover over the end of the stream, which is also the end of the individual caption. You will see the (I think it is called) Ripple Edit tool. Click, hold, and Drag to the right, and it will extend the caption stream. If you then click in the individual caption, you can drag it longer or shorter, or move it. (But some users report problems making adjustments of individual captions that way, so I recommend moving them using the times in the Caption panel.)

If that is not the problem, post a screenshot of your timeline and Caption panel.

Thank you Stan,

I did create these but for some reason, it was just not letting me add captions or manipulate the length so I believe it was that I had to reset preferences.
