Duplicate Frames when exporting with 4K but not when exporting with FullHD

I have the following scenario:

  • Input files with 59.94 fps, 4K DCI.
  • Sequence settings (and output target): 30 fps, Consumer 4K.
  • Some of the Input files are slowed down to half-speed for a slow-motion effect.

Problem: When exporting the sequence the slowed down areas have the same image in 2 consecutive frames. So, every second frame is like the frame before and the new set of frames is on the right location. However, this happens only when exporting with 4K. When exporting with FullHD, everything is OK.

I explained the problem in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7JPl_p3-DU

Correct answer Ann Bens

What if you used a 59.94 sequence and exported to 29.97?

If your source footage is 59.94 it is best to use a timeline that matches that, IOW a timeline that is 59.94 and then export to 30 fps. It is possible to slow down 59.94 footage in a 59.94 timeline.

But no matter what you do you will have issues somewhere in the chain, 59.94 is drop-frame while 30 is not so there will always be dropped frames and duplicated frames.

But i'll have drop-frames every 2 frames and only with 4K, not with an export of FullHD.

Thank you, Ann Bens. Your suggestion of using 29.97 fps solved the problem for me - thank you very, very much.

However, I think that this is a bug in Premiere which should be fixed.
