"Import captions from file" failing silently

When exporting a completed subtitle track to a .CSV file from the Captions window and importing the very same file back in via "Import captions from file", nothing happens. It just fails silently without any errors or prompts.

 

For context, I initially took the CSV file and replaced the English with translations for another language, and tried importing that, but it failed. So I tried importing the exact same file that was exported by Prem in case it was my edits that borked it, but that also failed.

 

  • Premiere Pro version: 23.3.0 (Build 61)
  • I've attached the unedited CSV that fails for reference.

I don't think it was intended to be imported. And yes, I don't see why it should not work. But you must create an srt file for import. I usually do this using Excel formulas.

 

The csv DID import for me, but it just sits in the Project Panel and cannot be added as a caption track.
