Instead of Transparency I am seeing Black Background

  • I have some PNG images on the timeline.
  • On the layer underneath the PNGs is a Blue solid layer.
  • So when the PNG has transparency or does not cover part of the viewing area, then the Blue solid underneath should be visible.

However when the PNG is near the edge and Opacity is at 100, then instead of seeing the blue solid of the underlying layer through the transparent area, it is just showing black instead. It is hard to explain but easy to show in a video screen recording, so please view here:

  • As you can see, if I change the opacity from 100% the transparency starts to behave as expected.
  • Also if I move the PNG further away from the edge of the window, the transparency starts to behave as expected.

 

I am looking for a real solution to this bug so that I am able to see the reality of what I am working on at that moment. 

 

I have tried deleting all the cache files. I have restarted the PC and apps multiple times. Not sure what else I can try.

Any assitance to solve this issue would be appreciated, thanks.

    HI JonesVid, thanks for trying to help. I did actually spend some time setting up custom media Cache locations for Creative Cloud Apps, they definitely take up too much space in their default locations. I like the idea of having a seperate fast drive for those, will have to remember that for when I next upgrade the PC.

      OK so missed that - you tried deleting them. Is Media Cache in standard location though ?

      Did you try the 'delete all Media Cache ' trick as well. I think you can do that by holding down shift as Premiere starts now from V23 onwards ...

      I've had several issues starting new projects with old Media Cache files present.

      Also - is your Media Cache stored in a custom location ? (see article link above)

      I use an internal separate fast NVMe drive for my Media Cache - easy to navigate to as well.

       

      Even if you re-install Premiere I am not sure if Media Cache gets reset if in a custom location.

      Anyway ...just a thought ....to try

      Thanks for the response Ann. I have jsut installed the Create Cloud apps so there is not much to reset, but I tried it and it did not help. Neither did importing the project into a new one.

      I will add that I noticed that this glitch happens seemingly randomly, sometimes it happens, other times it does not, that makes it hard to trust what you are seeing in Premiere without testing each image by changing the opacity. It's really not ideal at all.

        Reset Preference and/or make new project and import old one: see how that goes.
