Question

No sound on playback in Premier Pro

When importing a video there is no sound played. I can clearly see there is sound on the video but it won't play it. There were no issues previously and I had just completed editing a video when the next video imported with no sound playback.
If I export the clip there is sound on the rendered clip, so it's not an issue with audio being disable in edited clips.

I've already checked audio hardware and tried changing that around but no effect.
Any ideas?

Ok, next step then.  Can you post screen shots of both "Preferences>Playback..." and "Preferences>Audio Hardware..." so we can see how you have your system configured?

Thank you to mstegner for their reply to this issue.  I had the identical problem and had not found "Preferences>Playback>Primary Audio Device..." after hours of troubleshooting. Reverting to older version of PPro worked, but of course my newer project from v23.3 could not be opened in the older versions. I was at a loss.  I'm not sure when or how the Playback setting was changed.  Very frustrating.  Fortunately mstegner's post pointed me in the right direction.

Look under "Preferences>Playback>Primary Audio Device..." dropdown.  Make sure it is set to "Adobe Desktop Audio".
