Premiere Pro app cannot import any file other than Premiere Pro Project files

I use a mac. Normally I would use the shortcut Command + I to import everything (videos, audios, photos, etc). Now once I do this, I simply cannot select them. Everything is greyed out, even aep. files.

I tried to import manually by selecting Import > Search the name of the file on the search bar, which is very inconvenient and it always creates a new sequence with the imported clip.

How do I fix this? Please help.
