Premiere Pro crashes automatically when I import my Lumix GH6 video files

Hello everyone,

I bought the lumix gh6 about a week ago. I have been using premiere pro for years and I did not think there would be any problems. The problem starts when I import a video into premiere pro. I have tried on windows, MacOS, with 8 and 16Gb of ram and they all just crash immidietly. The "Crash report" pops up.

I havent even been able to edit a single clip so far. The clips import into the screen, they load succesfully but seconds after crashes, it crashes as soon as I try to interact with the clips themselves.

I have been filming mostly in 1080. I have used MP4 and MOV files and in 24, 30 and 60fps. I was filming on these settings because I thought they would be the easiest to handle: MOV , Full 1920x1080 (16:9), 23.98p 420/10bit/LongGOP,LPCM 100Mbps.

The fact that I have used 3 different computer makes me think that it is pretty obvious that the camera settings is the problem. I have edited hundreds of videos with sony cameras and this same computer before, I wonder what I am doing wrong.

I will attatch on this thread all the visual feedback I get when I try to do anything with the clips.

A couple of other points - try using another memory card and make sure you format it in the camera. Back up any files you want to keep first of course

You could also try re-setting the camera back to Factory settings and start from there.

Hi

I have a GH6 for over a year now and have filmed in various formats 1080HD/4K UHD without an issue importing into Premiere.

The 100MBs MP4 is the 8 bit setting - this can be handled by Hardware Decode /Encode if using a GPU like NVidia or Intel GPU.

Does a MP4 clip 1080p HD play in Windows Media Player - (or MAC) to establish the files play OK from the memory card.

Is your memory card fast enough ? . What are you using .

For All-Intra format this is at 400MBs so you will need a very fast memory card write speed.

If you are using the CF Express slot on the GH6 the memory cards are rated at well over 1000MBs - so no problem.

Have you tried filming in Apple Pro Res as well (as a test) and importing that ? (using CFexpress card).

There should be no reason at all why your MP4/MOV H264 or H265 clips don't import.

When you are setting up the project have you set the Sequence settings first - or are you simply dragging your first clip onto the timeline to set the sequence that way.

Go out in the backyard and shoot a few seconds of the other formats. Especially the All-Intra and ProRes, certainly these two would be easiest on your machine. You want to avoid LongGop as much as possible.
