Question

Adobe Save As on Mapped Drives is creating .tmp files

Greetings,

I have verified this issue exists with the following applications: Adobe Acrobat 2017, Adobe Acrobat 2020, Adobe Reader DC.

Issue: When opening a file located on a mapped drive and saving over itself using save as an error is returned and a .tmp file is saved instead of a .pdf.

Steps:

1. Open file on a mapped network drive

2. Choose Save-as and select the same file on the network drive

3. Error returned: "The document could not be saved. Cannot save to this filename. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."

4. A file titled something along the lines of: "A972diyz_1dm32eo_fzw.tmp" is then created in the network drive (renaming the file .pdf makes it readable

---

Troubleshooting:

- Tested mutliple PCs and x3 different versions of Adobe

- If these steps are followed on a local drive or a network location that is not mapped to a letter this issue does not occur and the file saves successfully.

- Network location was added as a "trusted folder path" (Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

- Protected Mode & View are disabled

- Enable Enhanced Security is disabled

- Preferences > Documents > "Automatically save document changes to temporary file every: x minutes" is disabled

- Preferences > Documents >  "Save As optimizes for Fast Web View" is disabled

-----

Please advise on possible next steps/fixes.

I had the same issue.  Fixed it with:
Go to MENU > PREFERENCES > SECURITY (ENHANCED):
                1) UNcheck PROTECTED MODE AT START UP and
                2) check ALL FILES under PROTECTED VIEW
                3) close app, open a PDF from network drive and edit with a comment and you should see magic happen

This doesn't work for me, and I just lost 2 hours of work to this. Any updates?
