Intertrust has released an updated version of its Doc Box plugin for Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Acrobat Reader 5.0.

Users that require the Intertrust digital rights management system in order to open secure pdf files are encouraged to download the new plugin. This new plugin also fixes problems for people who had system or debugger conflicts with the Doc Box plugin.

NOTE: This update is not supported on Windows 95. If you are using Windows 95 and are having issues with DocBox.api, simply remove any and all instances of this plugin. You can find the plugin by doing a search for "docbox.api" on your system.

I would like to say a BIG, THANK YOU!!!!!! to Mark MacDonald. I had downloaded the reader 16 times, installed it and it wouldn't work. I finally went to the message center and read Mark's message and did what he did. IT WORKED!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much Mark.

That's like taking your car into the shop because the fuzzy dice are broken. Throw the things away.

    You won't miss docbox. Ever.

Why would anyone spend a day trying to get the docbox.api fixed?

Just delete the damn thing. Has anyone in the history of the Universe ever actually needed this plug-in?

Mark, I agree with you. That Intertrust patch ain't worth a hoot. I spent all day on this; I dumped my old Reader first (dumb) and then was stuck with a potful of pdf files.
The ONLY fix I found was delete "docbox.api" ( I had several of'm also) and leave it that way.
At least now I can read my files.
And that's after downloading, installing, and dumping rp500enu.exe, rp300enu.exe(don't bother doing that), ar500enu.exe, and re-loading and re-installing rp500enu.exe.
At about an hour load time each....VERY frustrating.....
Since Mr. Chris Holm, Product Support Manager, is aware of this problem, we can HOPE that there is a REAL fix for this soon.....

What a mess! The posted solution to the problem doesn't even work. Fortunately Post 132 from W T Allen contains at least a partial solution. Although it is pretty sketchy it pointed me in the right direction. First I did a search of my hard drive C for the file "docbox.api" and I found 4 or 5 instances of it in various places including "windows/temp" and "program files/adopbe/acrobat/etc." I deleted all of them and then at least when I tried to open Acrobat Reader 5.0 I was able to do so without getting that darn error message. For most purposes the program seems to run fine although you are stuck if you really do need the docbox plugin. However, I gather that it is just for "secure" documents and so it probably won't be missed by most of us. However, it bugs me to be unsure of this and so I hope that someone from Adobe or Intertrust will remember to contact me when they REALLY do FINALLY get this mess straightened away. This has been such an IRRITATING waste of time!!!!!
    Cheers,
    Mark

I've installed the intertrust docbox.api upgrade and I am still unable to open any .pdf files or the reader alone for that matter. I've uninstalled both the reader and the upgrade, downloaded them again, installed them again, and the reader still won't work. Just so it's clear, I was never able to open the reader to begin with...thank you
