automate custom page numbering A1-1

I have many seperate pdf that each file is a section to an instructional book. Need to open and insert page numbers in the format of A1-1 to A1- end of document.  Then the next document could be A2 or skip to C1.  The lettering is in the file name.  Is it possible to automate reading the first characters of the file name and have them in the footer (even and odd pages) like A1 - <<1>>?

    1. The program would be Acrobat. Thought I was in the Acrobat community when I posted. Confusing sometimes.
