Can people view .pdf files on my web site

Question

I'm building a web site on my MacBook Pro. The native .pdf viewer has a lot of problems on all my Mac devices, iPhone, iPad Pro and my MacBook Pro. I have hundreds of .pdf's on my site. It is an informational site that covers 19th Century U. S. patent coffee roasters made between 1840 and 1900. Believe it or not over 200 coffee roasters were patented. Can I link internal patents to be displayed on my site? This is the error message that I get, PDF.js v2.2.228 (build: d7afb74a) Message: Load failed.

They can, if they have a PDF plugin installed in their browser. Otherwise they could download the file and open it using an app. Either way, you have no way to control it.
