Question

Dropdown contains dots for some foreign languages

We use a CCM application to generate PDF. I've noticed that when we create a dropdown for some languages (it can be a language specific font, or it can be Arial but for a language that reads right to left), the contents of the dropdown appear as dots for me, but it works fine for my coworkers (same PDF). We have compared settings and preferences. I have unistalled all plug-ins. I have uninstalled my Reader and Pro and reinstalled (and now it seems I can only have Pro, as it 'upgraded' my new Reader to Pro).

I even tried creating a new PDF in Adobe using Urdu values. When I click on the dropdown, I only see dots. When I select a value and exit the dropdown, then the correct value appears.  If another person opens my document, they can see the dropdown fields. If I open another user's document with the same exact test, I cannot see their values.

This is what I see:

This has nothing to do with embedded fonts. I already had the asian font pack previously installed and that did not help. Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Works fine for me:

I suppose that you are missing the correct font on your machine.

Thank you for your reply. However, it is not a font issue. The font is Arial.
I have copied the values out of the dropdown and they display fine. The problem is only when the dropdown is expanded.

But I did expand the dropdown, and it was OK. The points are indeed a symptom of a missing or corrupted font.

The second screenshot does not look like it came from Acrobat or Reader (notice the style of the arrow).

Are you sure that's where they are opening the file, and not in a browser window, for example?

Thank you for your reply. As noted above, I created the document in Adobe, and I am still in Adobe. I switched to the old format so you can see I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro:

I used to have Adobe Reader and Adobe Pro (and the issue happened in both).  I uninstalled Reader and reinstalled, but it did not create a second application that I could use to open my documents.  I uninstalled all Adobe applications, reinstalled Reader. It told me it saw my subscription and updated my Read to Pro. So now I only have Pro again. I don't know why my arrow looks different.

Here is the PDF I created (I couldn't attached it to the original post).
