How to copy, paste, edit Bookmarks from one PDF to another

Is there a MAC solution for copying, editing and pasting bookmarks from 1 PDF to another?

I have huge PDF files (over 700 pages) that I need to be able to copy the bookmarks from the old file, adjust the page number for the bookmark, and then paste into the new PDF.

There must be a smarter solution for Mac?

Bookmarks can't be copied directly in Acrobat from one file to another.

What can be done, though, is to use the Insert Pages command to insert the pages from one file into another. But if the bookmarks point to a specific page, that might cause them to malfunction. Instead, you can use the Replace Pages command, which replaces the files from the old file with those from the new one, while maintaining the bookmarks. If they then need to be adjusted you will need to do that manually, though.

Another option is to export the bookmarks structure to an external file (such as a text file) and then import them back into the target file, using a script. The problem with that is that it will convert all their actions to be script-based. I've actually developed a (paid-for) tool that does that. If you're interested in it feel free to contact me privately (via a PM) to discuss it further.
