Promotional Messages at Startup

I receive the same message when starting Acrobat, one in particluar about "converting any file to a pdf" and its absolutely annoying.  I unchecked the box in Preferences>General.  However, it won't stay that way and goes back to the default as checked.  Anyone know how to permanently uncheck this thing?
