Hi, LOL. That is exactly what I told Dell:-) Ok, did you miss the "Read this?" Post back your Operating System, is it a 64bit, and what browser(s) and versions you use.

Did you have any problem Uninstalling your previous FP version?

Thanks,

eidnolb

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Point  and click on everything without ever reading any of it.

McAfee pays a  surcharge which helps to support bandwidth and server maintenance for  all the Flash Player downloads. In exchange, Adobe offers a free scan app from them (IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL IT... OR DON'T CHOOSE NOT TO).

99.99%  of all viruses are downloaded because people, like you, don't bother to even look at what they are clicking on and just do it. Hackers, and virus writers plan on just that sort of stupidity in PC users, which is why there is such a market for anti-virus software. There should be an app for anti-stupid... but then Microsoft would lose 98% of it's customer base in one fell swoop.

READ THINGS BEFORE YOU JUST BLINDLY CLICK THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some times we're just trying to do a quick upgrade in order to get past bugs from a previous version and don't have the time to look for trickery in every place.

As long as people are willing to accept sleazy behavior from companies, they will continue to do sleazy crap and continue to escelate that crap until people start pushing back!

It's a dirty trick they're playing and McAfee is NOT and admirable company.

As to the person who 'chooses' to take offense at some out-of-context part of one of my sentences, if you want to wear that lipstick, then by all means smear it all over your lips.

I suppose if you're too busy to notice that you're filling your car up with diesel by mistake, then it's the cashier's fault.

Good God! Where is the personal responsibility for one's own actions in this world anymore?

"That bank wrote me an adjustable rate mortgage and now I can't afford it."

"That bartender got me drunk and I wrecked my car."

"That 1-900 phone sex company cleaned out my bank account."

If you're too busy to uncheck a box in a window, how do you find the time to breathe or blink, or take a leak during your day?

Hey "I Know Nothing at all"

Thanks for the insight. I was thinking Adobe was a reputable company, so I wasn't checking to see if they were doing anything slimy.

Now, thanks to you, when I'm directed to adobe's site I'll think "1-900 phone sex company" and remember "oh right ... Adobe is a sleeze-ball company" and I'll check for slimy pre-checked check-boxes.

There is really no point insulting your fellow users in this forum!  If you have some beef with Adobe's policy, take it to Adobe, not the user forum!

Bella, point taken, Adobe may not be a sleeze-ball company, but the whole reason we need to READ READ READ is because not-sleezy companies like Adobe can do slimy things. I count this McAfee opt-out as one of them.  Perhaps you, like me have mothers and in-laws that are always going to be a step behind the creative gotcha tactics of Adobe et al.  Then they call me with computer problems ... then I need some of Bella's leftover ibuprofen.

Steve Jobs is right - I am looking forward to the day we can browse the web without needing the ever-so-frequent Adobe bloatware upgrades that comeloaded with sidecar junk like this.

It's a text renderer, for goodness sake - why has it become simultaneously (a) the most attractive target for malware hackers, (b) one of the most frequently updated components of a PC, (c) a vector for delivering yet more unwanted bloatware?  I'm guessing that in the last 5 years we've had 25 updates of Reader, and I bet most people couldn't name a single value added feature for all those upgrades.  Unless you are Intel or Seagate, successfully selling more processor power and disc drives, perhaps...

Unhappy....

This is insane - why would I want McAfee Security Scan Plus when I was updating Flash? All I was doing was trying to open the browser to do a quick task, but Frirefox wanted updating and in the process it says I need an urgent update to the Flash player... so now I've been interrupted twice, I want to just get this out of the way and get on with what I was doing.

In answer to some of the other people criticisingthis guy for not payinig attention, why should we have to pay attention to something like this? I am an interface designer and I can tell you this is BAD design. You don't provide people with an opt-out for something they have not chosen during a routine event. You then get a) people overlooking this because we tend to rush through in everyday tasks like this, b) not lookinig for it becuase this isn't usually there, c) notexpecting "little traps" because this is supposedly a large "trustworthy" company.

This is a trust issue - as a device to knock large chunks of value off your brand it's pretty successful. The director in charge of the Adobe brand should go and kick whatever f**kwit thought this was a good idea, becuase they've probably just knocked a few hundred thousand $ off the balance sheet.

And as to the personal responsibility - well yes I agree we need to get back to taking personal responsibility for things... but equally, companies have responsibility for designing things not trip people up (do you think Boeing should not worry about the pilot interface because heshould just pay more attention?).  And there is a big difference between a design mistake and a "reputable" company deliberately providing a required opt-out for unrequested extras, for thier own commercial gain.

By the way I am right now looking at a huge bill to buy CS5 which I have to have to do my job... 'dI rather that when I pay a lot for the product it covers the cost of the required security updates, instead of me having to look out for tricks they pull when Installing security updates.

Basically this kinid of thing doesn't improve our lives.

I'm sorry, but this kind of outburst seems silly and immature.  It's common practice for companies to offer free additional software with downloads.  When I signed up for this forum, there were about five different checkboxes (all auto-checked) signing me up for emails I don't want to get. I UNCHECKED THEM.  This is a COMMON business practice for internet businesses and some people appreciate the free virus scan software.  I don't think Adobe is a sleazy company for bundling these two pieces of software and allowing you to unselect the McAfee option.  It's NORMAL and FINE.

Grow up, take responsibility, and learn to read.

Quite frankly, it is completely unexpected to offer this kind of stuff with the flash player.  And when you're in a rush you just might not notice they are bundling something completely unrelated with the Flash player.  Quite frankly, the box should be unchecked by default.  You should choose to take the McAfee software, not have to choose NOT to take it.  You'll wind up with a lot fewer annoyed customers.  Quite frankly, I will NEVER buy a McAfee product because of this.  There is a backlash from this.  And it affects both McAfee and Adobe.  The original poster is just one.

"Opt-in" not "opt-out" of junk bundled "free" downloads like this.

Grow up, take responsibility, and learn to read.

Thanks for the good advice. We are living in a world where we are surrounded with so much information that we can't consume it all. I don't read the warnings every time before I push a button in an elevator, do you? I don't read every word on new bank notes and I still don't expect any trickery, perhaps I'm weird. But I am not going to read everything and I expect some fundamental correctness from companies I trust. And if I can't trust them anymore, I will be immature and illiterate in your eyes, but instead of reading everything, I will move on and use products from vendors that don't trick me. In this particular case it means not upgrading Flash Professional anymore...
