If the question is: will Lightroom run? Then the answer is YES.
If the question is: will you be able to use this card for graphics accleration in Lightroom 6/Lightroom CC 2015/Lightroom Classic CC? Then the answer is NO.
Why are you looking at a new graphics card anyway? What problem are you trying to solve?

The graphics card will have nothing to do with your ability to import photos.
If you describe the problem you are having when you import, and give us the exact error message, maybe we can help.

I have upgraded to Sierra only to find that Lightroom 4 will not recognise my camera a Canon 5D markIi.
So I cannot download images. My entire workfloow is on Lightroom.
i am hoping an upgrade will fix the issue, but I don’t want to make another system change without thoroughly checking first!
The system requirements list Graphics cards
But but I am still not clear of that includes mine...?

What do you mean by this? Do you get an error message? Quote it word-for-word or post a screen shot.
This is not a graphics card problem so a new card will not fix the issue.

Yes, I get that. I guess I am confusing two issues a bit.
There is no error message, it just cannot see it. I have read that there are issues with older Lightrooms even recognising cameras under Sierra and there is also no possibility of a patch forthcoming from Adobe.
i could download the images separately, and then import them in to Lightroom. But,once programs start being unsupported by Adobe and blocked by Apple you are on the beginning of downward curve. I don’t want to spend time finding patches, fixes and alternatives, I just want it to smoothly work. as before, and no I cannot rewind to an older OS, there were other issues involved.
The graphics card won’t alter the camera recognition problem will it, it mainly affects image display speed doesnt it?
I just don’t want to fix one problem and find it replaced by another!

When you go to import, how far do you get in the process before it doesn't work properly? Describe the steps in detail. Show us a screen capture.

It only has an effect on some operations in the Develop Module, nothing else.

- 1 GB of Video RAM (VRAM). 2 GB of dedicated VRAM (4 GB recommended) for large, high-resolution monitors, such as 4K- and 5K-resolution monitors.

According to your original post, you have " ATI RadeonHD 5670 512MB”. Your card does not have the required 1 GB of video RAM, it only has 512 MB (half of the required amount). You could still run Lightroom, but you would need to turn OFF (uncheck) the Use Graphics Processor option in the Performance section of Lightroom Preferences.
(My iMac has a video card with only 512 MB of video RAM and I am running Lightroom Classic CC, with the Use Graphics Processor option unchecked. It runs fine.)

Ok.. I tried to get you a screen grab, but now :Lightroom crashes as soon a I connect my camera!
First I opened Lightroom saw an update notice to update to 4.4, pressed the button to do so, it took mr here...

I pressed Lightroom and came to a downloads page where updated were available only up yo Lightroom 3.
I was unsure what to do so returned to what I had and...
Second I opened Lightroom, connected camera and switched it on. Crash.
Third I attached and switched on my camera, launched Lightroom. Crash.
All ideas and help much appreciated

Can you copy the photos from the camera card to your hard disk with Lightroom shut down? If so, can you import the photos from your hard disk?

The photos on the hard disk are visible. I will try another way of downloading from the camera and let you know how that goes. Than you!

Ok ...the images are sail visible and accessible. Having wiped my iMac (24" circa mid 2010) clean installed Sierra. reloaded Adobe Creative Suite and Lightroom 4. Then put the Archive of photos back in the Pictures folder and then replaced the ircat and irc at data folders in the Lightroom folder.
Was that the right thing to to do? Replae the ircat and data?
The images are loading fine. Except for the total crash when I switch on the camera, I guess its ok...
It asks me at launch if I want to upgrade to LR 4.4 I follow the link and I cannot find the patch.
Do I need it? Should I get LRCC Classic?
I have over 30,000 photos to keep safe with Lightroom little capacity to trawl the books/internet looking for answers the way I used to! I need this all to work securely. The crashes make me nervous, although I do have3 copies of the Archive, a;; edits have been done in Lightroom. Do you gurus have any advice?

Explain "replace". Replace what with what? What are the exact steps you used? Leave nothing out.

I don't think there is an update to LR 4.4. (Maybe there was a minor update to 4.4.1, I can't remember). You could upgrade (which means you have to pay Adobe money).
Do I need it? Should I get LRCC Classic?
Well that's up to you if you need it.

Thanks for the input. Heres a ;list of evens:
I backed up the .ircat and .irdata files (to external HDs) from Lightroom 4 in my last OS El Capitain before I erased the hard drive so I could do a clean install in the HD of Sierra, and not bring across any duplicated or corrupted files from other programmes to the new OS. Then when Sierra was installed, I installed the only programmes I needed,CS6 and Lightroom. It made a folder called Lightroom in my Pictures folder with a fresh set of .ircat and .irdata fires that I then removed ( and put in a desktop folder for spare just incase I cocked it up!) and put in the ones I had saved from my previous incarnation of Lightroom using backup software Chronosync) So far it seems to be working, I haven't. tested it much, but my old catalogue and edits seem to still be there...
Does this transfer sequence sound ik to you?

Yes, it seems like you did the right thing.
Minor correction: you mean .LRCAT and .LRDATA
