I can't renew subscription because Adobe says i already own illustrator

When i try to renew my expired subscription to Adobe Illustrator i get met with this notification on the purchase tab

I can't close it without clicking on one of the options and it just leads to a browser tab with other purchase plans, i'm stuck

your subscription will automatically renew.  ie, there's no way to renew prior to the renew date when it automatically renews.

It expired prematurely due to me having to cancel the credit card i used to make the payment, does that make a difference?

contact adobe support to clarify the situation.  there are 2 ways to contact adobe support; chat and twitter (now x):

chat:
if you have or want to purchase a subscription, use a browser that allows popups and cookies
and click here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen
in the chat field (lower right), type AGENT
be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human.

twitter/x:
tweet @AdobeCare

p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative.
