Can't use an e-mail address of an earlier closed account (error given)

So here's the deal: some years ago I used to have an Adobe account using e-mail address "x" (I'm not comfortable sharing my actual address here). This account has long been closed.

I now have an account using e-mail address "y" with a yearly subscription. Now I want to change address "y" for "x" but the system replies that it's already in use. If I try to login using "x" however it tells me it's deactivated. So now I'm stuck.

I like to get into contact with a support person who can remove "x" properly out of the system, so I can use it again. I've already tried calling, but the connection is so horrendous that can't understand a word support is saying.

Please help me out.

I imagine emails are locked forever, and don't become free. You can try remembering the password you originally used.

Do be aware that Adobe's staffing is impacted by the virus, so wait times are long

I don't believe that can be done.  Once an account is closed, the email associated with the account can't ever be used again on another Adobe account.
