3ds max to 3d pdf

Hello everyone,

I am very excited about the possibility of putting my 3d projects into a 3d pdf.  I work in 3ds max and have attempted to create my first 3d pdf with some problems.

First: the only file type exported from 3ds max that I can get into acrobat 9 pro extended without errors is .3ds.

Question: Is this the best/only format I can use from 3ds max?

Second: The model will import from a .3ds file, but there are no textures.

Question:  How do I get my textures imported along with the model?

Third:  Some of the geometry does not import into the pdf the way it was originally modeled.

Question: Is there a work around for this issue?

If anyone has any suggestions for these issues or can point me to some good tutorials on going models from 3ds max to 3d pdf.  I would be greatly appreciated.

BTW. I was at the adobe summit this year and saw some really cool models and interactivity with 3d pdf's.  My goal is to be able to reproduce what I saw.

Hello,

a while ago I wrote a couple of tutorials for creating pdf's from 3ds max.

http://3dpdf.blogspot.com/ (beginning with the oldest entry)

When exporting to .3ds keep in mind that the texture file names shouldn't be longer than 8 characters.

To bypass the 64k polygon limit of .3ds you would have to go over Deep Exploration:

1. save as .max or export as .rh in 3ds max

2. open your file in Deep Exploration and save it as .u3d

3. import the .u3d into Acrobat 9

Best regards,

Chuck
