500kb-1mb architectural pdfs (floorplans/masterplans etc) slowing/freezing Acrobat Pro

My work PC just cannot handle these 500kb-1mb arch plan pdfs for some reason, even if I compress them a bit. They aren't riduclously huge. Something funky is going on but I'm not sure what. I've monitored the PC through the task manager's performance tab and it's not maxing out its memory (still 1-2gb to spare usually) or CPU speed. It's extremely frustrating.

Basically what will happen is it will take ages to load the first page, then I will go to scroll through the report and it will freeze.

Any leads for how I can prevent this? Is there some setting I'm missing?

I think rendering happens on a GPU. My 2080 Ti never has any problem with rendering pdfs.
