This has been happening recently and is making my work very difficult because I have to open every document, whereas before I could just click on it in the folder and see its contents in the preview window. Is there a solution to eliminate this?

Hello @Alex35034380auok

I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out.

This warning indicates that Windows or Acrobat is blocking the preview pane for PDFs because the file is flagged as potentially unsafe (typically due to originating from the internet, email, or a network share). That's why you now have to open each file instead of seeing a quick preview.

Remove the "blocked" status for trusted files:

  • Right-click the PDF> Properties> If you see 'Unlock', click it and apply.
  • This removes the MOTW, allowing the preview to work.

Adjust Protected Mode (optional):

  • In Acrobat: Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced).
  • If you disable Protected Mode at startup, previews will work, but this reduces security. Only do this in a controlled environment. Please enable the settings after the test is complete.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20982. Planned update: December 2, 2025. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

  • Open Adobe Acrobat / Reader

  • Go to Menu > Preferences

  • Select General

  • Make sure “Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer” is checked

  • Click OK and restart your computer

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
