Acrobat and InDesign print too dark in booklet format. Single page prints regular weight.

The text is noticeably darker when I print my document in booklet format, in InDesign, or via Acrobat. A single page prints normally. I print to a Ricoh SP C840DN, and am using the 2023 versions of InDesign and Acrobat on a Mac. Why would settings change because booket imposition was implemented???

What I tried:

  • I have turned off Rich Blacks in InDesign preferences, where the file was created.
  • I have tried changing what controls the color output.
  • In advanced print color management, I have changed color handling to "same as source"
  • I have tried 300 and 600 dpi

Please share any ideas.

How do you create the booklet? By using Ricoh's print engine? Did you try with a simple Word file?

I created the booklet in Adobe InDesign. I tried printing from InDesign and
from Adobe Acrobat with the same result. If I printed one page, the black
density did not increase, so I printed all 8 double-sided pages separately
to work around the problem. InDesign and Acrobat set up a continuous flow
document into a print signature for a folded booklet. They are my
professional tools.

I do not use Word nor want to reconfigure everything into a third program.
I don't want to work backward into a lesser tool if possible.

The adobe products are not heeding the Ricoh print settings. Hoping for an
update!
