Acrobat Autotag adds Times-Roman font to PDF that causes font missing error in PDF/UA validation

Hi I am using Mac Acrobat DC Pro ver. 2023.006.20360 for accessible PDF tagging. Autotag document adds the new font “Times-Roman” to PDFs causing font missing error in PDF/UA validation. Using Acrobat Preflight to embed the missing font does not help even though Preflight report indicates the font has been successfully embedded. Anyone knows how to fix this issue? Thanks.

Don't you have a document to share, both, the before and the after?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that you will get a fast solution to this: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/autotag-in-adobe-acrobat-dc/td-p/9858687

Thanks Abambo for your info. According to the discussion link above, Adobe is aware of this problem since 2018, and it has not been addressed so far. Do disappointed!

From the screen captures, it appears that the ANSI/TrueType fonts were never embedded into PDF when the original version was exported to PDF.

On a hunch, see if this workflow solves the problem.

Before you autotag it, use Acrobat's Preflight utility to embed all of the fonts.

Then AutoTag the PDF.

FYI, the Times-Roman and Helvetica fonts shown in the screen captures are Adobe's default sans-serif and sans fonts it uses to represent all variations of Times (like Times New Roman on Windows systems) and Arial.

FYI2, haven't heard anything from Adobe's engineers that they are working on this bug.

Thanks Bevi. I have tried your suggestion to use preflight to embed all fonts to the pdf first before autotag. That does not embed any new fonts to the file at all. As soon as Autotag is run, Times-Roman font is added. Kind of a mystery!

Hi @Maury5E19,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the experience!

We were able to reproduce this in-house, and I have logged a ticket for the team to investigate further.

I will keep you updates once I hear back.

Thanks,

I would like to add that this happens for me as well. I have tried all versions of this. Set PDF/ UA first, Set Font Embed First, Remove all tags first, Autotag first and the result is the same: A broken document that cannot be remediated. If my document doesn't contain a font before autotagging anf then contains Times New Romann afterwards, Adobe Autotag is to blame NO? It is  SOOOO Close to working. PLEASE HELP US!
