Acrobat completely unusable

Community Beginner ,
Sep 16, 2023 Sep 16, 2023

Acrobat [expletive removed] and had problems with it for years.

Now I can't use it. When I open it within in seconds a grey box appears and I can't do anything. I can't even quit. I have to force quit it. I uninstalled it and reinstalled with the same result.

I need to find an Acrobat alternative since Acrobat [expletive removed].

I'm having a similar bug on a resonable powerful computer (iMac 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 with 72 GB RAM). The performance issues seem to be ralated to PDF's with comments.

The PDF I opened had no comments. It also happened when I had no PDFs open either.

May be you should start with the basics:

What is your OS and the exact version and what is the exact version of Acrobat.

You say, you uninstalled/reinstalled, but did you also run the cleaner in between? https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

Hi Fred-Clayjar and vegestock,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry about the trouble.

Please let us know if the issue started occurring after the recent update. Does this happen every time you launch the application? or with a particular workflow?

Try repairing the application once. If that does not help, try reinstalling the application using the following steps:

- Remove the application and run the cleaner tool (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html).
- Reboot the machine
- Install Adobe Acrobat Reader from the following page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/.

If you still get the same window, please share the process logs with us. You may use the steps provided on the following help page: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/acromonitor.html.

Share the Acrobat and OS version on the machine. It will help us to further investigate the issue.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
