Acrobat crashes when attempting to create and save a file of multiple scans

Crashing.pngHi All,

My Acrobat Pro program has crashed twice when attempting to save a multi-page file produced from a number of scans.  I have sucessfully scanned and saved the introduction and the first two chapters of a book I am having reprinted.  That was about 80 pages in three separate files to which  the OCR recogition software was applied. When I attempted to save a subsequent chapter with the same settings as the previous three I was presented with a blank screen (see screenshot) instead of the save as dialogue box.

I called the Adobe help number and the tech took control of the computer and "saved" the file.  I asked him about why the crash happened and he said it was "just a glitch" and as a result of his intervention it would not happen again.

I saw the saved file in the file list on my computer's file manager, or whatever they call it these days.  I never thought I should open the file.  When I later opened it all my settings had been stripped away and I now had a "standard" size document expanded so that the scan was now on letter- sized page.  I called again to see if this could be corrected, but was unable to explain to another tech what seemed like a simple problem to understand.  Namely, I wanted my scans to sit on a 5.5 inch by 8.5 inch paper as they did before I received help from Adobe.  I subsequently have come to the conclusion this is probably not possible to do. I am not sure that this is correct.

After returning my settings to what I had set before the the first tech "recovered my file" I rescanned the lost thirty pages (took about 35 minutes) and found that again I am unable to save my work.

I have complete use of my computer and am hoping I do not lose power and have my 30 pages of work lost again.  Actually just kidding, although the file is still sitting in an open Acrobat program.  In my mind however, I have said good-bye to those 30 pages for the second time.  Right now, I am guessing I have two shots at making the best of this situation.  The first is to reinstall the Acrobat Pro, which I assume I can do via the zip file sitting with my downloaded files.  If I can do this, it will save me another digital trip to India which I would like to avoid. The second is to rely on the kindness and expertise of those in this community, many of whom have been remarkably welcoming to me and my struggle to create a print-ready pdf of my wife's 1991 book which is still a major point of reference in the field of women's history, and like  many books now, has never gone out of print.  (She has recently acquired the copyright,)

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.  All I need is to be able to scan and save another 220 pages and then I can move my struggles to Word and InDesign.

Best,

Hi Meenakshi,

I reinstalled Acrobat and I am back on the horse.  Thanks.  I did 2 chapters today and am 143 pages in to a 300 page book.  Thanks for the help.

Ira
