Hi there,

I can open the Adobe Acrobat application just fine, but when I open a PDF it crashes. This has been happening repeatedly for over a month. I've tried other fixes and it will work again temporarily, but then the same issue will happen and it will stop working. What do I do?

Hi there

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with Adobe Acrobat crashing when opening PDFs.

Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and fix the problem:

1. Update Adobe Acrobat

- Ensure you are using the latest version of the application:

- Open Adobe Acrobat.
- Go to Help > Check for Updates.
- If an update is available, install it and restart the application.

2. Repair Installation (Win Only)

- Sometimes, repairing the installation can resolve underlying issues:

- Open Adobe Acrobat.
- Go to Help > Repair Installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and restart your computer.

3. Check for Conflicting Software

- Security software or outdated plugins can cause crashes. Try temporarily disabling antivirus software or checking for other applications that might conflict with Acrobat.

4. Reset Preferences

- Corrupt preferences can lead to crashes. Reset Acrobat's preferences as described here (https://adobe.ly/3BLozwA)

5. Disable Protected Mode (Testing only)

- Try disabling Protected Mode to see if it resolves the issue:

- Open Adobe Acrobat.
- Go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced).
- Uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup.
- Turn off the Protected mode

- Click OK and restart Acrobat.
Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please provide more details:

- Your operating system (e.g., Windows 11, macOS ).
- The Acrobat version you’re using.
- Whether the issue occurs with all PDFs or specific ones.

Amal

Hi,

I tried to reset preferences, but the folder “com.adobe.acrobat.pro.plist” does not exist for me.

Thanks,

Catie
