Acrobat crashes immediatiely when reading checkboxes and radio buttons with NVDA.
This has been ocurring for at least two days as of August 20, 2025.
For NVDA users, this means they cannot read or fillout accessible PDF forms. For me, this means I cannot test the accessible PDF forms I am creating. This is critical to debug.

The crash is ocuring with many documents. I created many versions to determine if the intial document or a specific tag scenario in a doucment was the issue. The issue is Acrobat.
I'll try some of the troubleshooting. Thanks.

I would suggest you post this to an NVDA specific forum, and/or speak with an accessibility expert. Problems with the NVDA screen reader and Acrobat are widely reported. I've seen some posted solutions, such as changing Acrobat preferences. I am not an accessibility export and don't know if any of the solutions work, or are the same as what you are seeing.

I am an accessible document creator/remediator. I've posted in accessible document specialists group to see if others are experiencing this as well. I've tried all of the Adobe suggestions thus far, so I suppose it is time to post to an NVDA forum. My preferences haven't changed in years so that shouldn't be a cause. Thanks!

I updated Acrobat, updated Windows, updated Parallels, "repaired" Acrobat. Still the same issue.

Hi @KTdid.
Thank you for reaching out to us.
To help us investigate the issue further, could you provide the steps that led to the crash?
If possible, sharing the document that consistently causes the crash would also be very helpful.
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Ayush Jain

Hi. The crash happens with any interactive PDF exported from InDesign that contains a checkbox or radio button. I have created brand new documents with only one checkbox on the page and this will cause the crash. (I have been sending reports to Adobe that include my email address and have received no response.) Thanks!

Hello @KTdid
I hope you are doing well, and we are sorry for the trouble.
Thank you for sharing the workflow. Could you please collect the logs and share them with us here, as well as the sample files as requested by the Product Engineer?
To collect the logs, download and run the Log Collector tool. Make sure to select all log options and attempt to reproduce the issue. After that, close the Log Collector tool; it will generate the logs along with a log ID. Please share this log ID with us for further investigation.
Thanks for your time and cooperation.

Hi. Yes — I included the logs as they were requested yesterday in an earlier post in this thread. I see that you're requesting them a different way…I will collect them.

I followed the instructions to collect logs via "Using Windows error reporting to collect Acrobat/Reader crash dumps" (as you can see in the attached screenshot). However, after multiple Acorbat crashes, there are zero crash dump logs available.
Noting: I used the Adobe Crash Reporter many times over the last few days and have received no response to the email address provided, but I hope those reports along with the one previsouly post here can be useful?
Here is an InDesign file and PDF of one document that simply contains one interactive checkbox: Checkbox Read with NVDA Crashes Acrobat.zip
